New Haven & Derby Railroad Club

Purpose: To promote model railroading

Description: Founded in March 1986, the New Haven & Derby Railroad Club is a model railroad club operating under the authority of the Orange Historical Society. Its HO gauge layout is located in the basement of The Academy, a museum operated by the Historical Society at 605 Orange Center Rd. It depicts areas such as Long Wharf in New Haven, the railroad station in Orange and other scenes related and unrelated to the original NH&D line.

Operation: The Club meets Thursday evenings at 7:30PM. The first Thursday of a month is "running night" when members operate their own rolling stock or use Club equipment. The third Thursday night is a Business Meeting. The Club uses a car-card system for moving its consists and the layout is wired for hand-held throttle operation.

Membership: New members must meet the following requirements:

• Have passed his or her 16th birthday
• Have filed a Membership Application
• Have been voted in by current members in good standing
• Have paid an initiation fee of $20.00 plus a $10.00 annual dues to the Orange Historical Society. Railroad Club dues are $3.00 per month.
