New Haven & Derby Railroad Club

Purpose: To promote model railroading

Description: Founded in March 1986, the New Haven &Derby Railroad Club is a model railroad club operating under theauthority of the Orange Historical Society. Its HO gauge layout islocated in the basement of The Academy, a museum operated by theHistorical Society at 605 Orange Center Rd. It depicts areas such asLong Wharf in New Haven, the railroad station in Orange and otherscenes related and unrelated to the original NH&D line.

Operation: The Club meets Thursday evenings at 7:30PM. Thefirst Thursday of a month is "running night" when members operatetheir own rolling stock or use Club equipment. The third Thursdaynight is a Business Meeting. The Club uses a car-card system formoving its consists and the layout is wired for hand-held throttleoperation.

Membership: New members must meet the followingrequirements:

• Have passed his or her 16th birthday
• Have filed a Membership Application
• Have been voted in by current members in good standing
• Have paid an initiation fee of $20.00 plus a $10.00 annual dues to the Orange Historical Society. Railroad Club dues are $3.00 per month.
